Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Marcham Road Health Centre?

Would you like to influence the development

of your practice and health services?

Do you have ideas, suggestions or feedback that you feel the practice and its patient’s can address?

The Health Centre is keen to set up a Patient Participation Group to work with the practice staff to ensure our patients ideas, thoughts and needs are met.

We hope to recruit both a face-to-face group and an e- community.

The first group would be required to attend the surgery twice a year for a meeting with the practice while the e-community will be asked to take part in these changes by use of internet communication and feedback.

We need to ensure the group is a fair representation of the practice population, so not all applicants will be able to take part.

The purpose of a Patient Participation Group (PPG) is to ensure that patients are involved in decisions about the range and quality of services provided by their practice.

We aim to promote the proactive engagement of patients through the use of our Patient Participation Group and seek the views of practice patients through direct communication and local practice survey. The outcomes of this engagement and the views of our patients can be used to improve the services provided by the practice.

As part of this group you will either be an "E-Community" member or "Face to Face" member.

The E-Community will be made up of patients willing to provide their personal e-mail addresses in order that the practice can contact them to request their views, ideas and suggestions about the provision of services at the Health Centre.

The Face to Face group will meet twice a year to discuss the views, ideas and suggestions of our patients about all aspects of the services provided by the practice. From this the PPG and the practice will agree areas of priority in order to implement improvements within those services. The Face to Face group will also become involved in managing and analysing the annual practice survey.

Q Why are you asking people for e-mail addresses?

A We would like to be able to contact patients to ask them questions about the surgery

and how well we are doing to identify areas for improvement.

Q Will my doctor see this information?

A This information is purely to contact patients to ask them questions about the

surgery, how well we are doing and to ensure changes that are being made are

patient focused. If your Doctor is responsible for making some of the changes in the

surgery they might see general feedback from patients.

Q Who else will be able to access my contact details?

A Your contact details will be kept safely and securely and will only be used for this

purpose and will not be shared with anyone else.

Q How often will you contact me?

A Not very often, no more than 4 times a year.

Q What is a patient group/patient participation group?

A This is a group of volunteer patients who are involved in making sure the surgery

provides the services its patients need.

Q What if I no longer wish to be on the contact list of I leave the surgery?

A We will ask you to let us know by email if you do not wish to receive further

messages.
